Interactions between a groundwater aquifer and a river

Welcome to the Project Site of the Kenai River Center, GW Scientific, and Restoration Science and Engineering study of Ground-Water Interactions Near Kenai River Spawning Beds! This site is very new so please check back every few days for additional information. We are jointly studying the impacts of ground-water upwelling on fisheries resources in the Kenai River Watershed. Our other partners in this project include the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Kenai Watershed Forum.

new contentHave you seen our new data for the Soldotna Area? Please visit our data section to see how the Kenai River is interacting with local ground-water systems in the Soldotna area.

How do streams and rivers interact with adjacent ground water?

The above animation shows a simplified hydrologic system and the impacts of varying river stages on surrounding ground-water flow into the river. The animation will start to play during download of this webpage and continue to play after downloading is complete. Slight delays may be seen with slow Internet connection speeds.
